What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a type of meditation that doesn’t feel like meditation at all. You get all the  benefits of meditation without the frustrations or learning curve because you are guided by a skilled Yoga Nidra teacher.

Yoga Nidra meditation sessions can vary in length between 10 minutes to one hour or more, all depending on how much time you have. Typically when practicing Yoga Nidra you lie down on your back, eyes closed (as in Savasana). Most participants will use a towel or bolster under their knees and a small pillow under their neck and have a light blanket covering them. As you can see this is truly a different type of meditation. You can also practice Yoga Nidra sitting with your eyes open if that is more comfortable for you.

People who have never tried Yoga Nidra will typically fall in love with it after one session. I’ve had numerous first time participants exclaim that the experience was ‘magical’, ‘the most relaxed I’ve ever been’, I didn’t want it to end.’

I believe the reason for such powerful reactions is because Yoga Nidra allows you to begin from where you are in this moment and gives you permission to focus on someone else’s voice, and this allows you to relax almost immediately since the pressure is taken off of you to meditate and focus on nothing. Yoga Nidra works by distracting your conscious self so that relaxing and ‘healing’ can take place at the subconscious or unconscious level.

During a Yoga Nidra meditation your teacher will guide you to settle through breath work, then focus on different parts of your body, you will also create a Sankalpa or a resolve, which is something like an affirmation. For example a Sankalpa might be, “I am loving and loved.” Or “I give and receive help.” There is even some visualization during a Yoga Nidra meditation but here again you are expertly guided by your teacher.

Yoga Nidra, is also know as yogic sleep. It is said that 40 minutes of yoga Nidra is like 3 or 4 hours of sleep. While Yoga Nidra does not replace sleep, it is a powerful relaxant since it brings the practitioner to deep place of relaxation between wakefulness and sleep. It is here that magic happens.

May you experience your true self,
Lucia

A Magical Voice

Most people understand that meditation is good for them, but like most things that are good for us, we find them difficult to do. While most people understand the importance of meditation and desire to make meditation a part of their lifestyle because they’ve read or heard about the many benefits of meditation they still find regular meditation to be elusive.

The solution? Yoga Nidra guided meditation with Lucia Bellafante. Agh! You might be thinking, “Not another meditation class.’; but be open minded just for a bit and hear me out. All you need to do is experience one live Yoga Nidra meditation session with Lucia Bellafante to truly feel at peace and empowered. Clients consistently say that a Yoga Nidra meditation session with Lucia is miraculous and unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before.

Many of us know what it feels like to be excited and download a guided meditation only to be left feeling frustrated and disappointed, especially if we’ve paid for the download, and the person’s voice makes us tense instead of relaxed. Or, worst yet, the person we are listening to makes us feel as though we’re listening to nails scratching a chalkboard.

It has been said over and over again that Lucia Bellafante’s voice is magical. Clients consistently state that just hearing Lucia’s voice makes them feel more at peace, calm and centred. It almost sounds too good to be true; until you experience it for yourself and then you become a believer. But a guided meditation session with Lucia is not just about a great voice alone. You get energized healing, love and compassion; it might seem strange to say that you can get all this from a meditation but you do when Lucia is the teacher.
